Last month was my birthday and my lovely hubby gave me some money for me to book a gait analysis at a specialist running shop and treat myself to a new pair of trainers.
With one thing and another we have only just made it into Cardiff to spend my money.
I rang the shop beforehand and asked them if I needed to wear my usual running kit. “No need” they said. “Although you could bring your old trainers to check for wear”. Even though I had been told not to wear my running kit, I decided it would probably be a good idea to wear tracksuit bottoms to run in.
Hubby and I caught the train into Cardiff, taking a very excited 2year old with us.
Once we got there the lady doing my gait analysis asked me to roll up my trouser legs to just above my ankles. This annoyed me slightly as, had I worn my running leggings they are 3/4 length and would have been the perfect length!
Annoyances aside, she was very professional and even though I secretly wanted to take home the pair they give you to run in for the analysis, (they were bright yellow!) I did eventually come away with a lovely pair of mizuno Wave Legends.
I was a bit disappointed by the fact that once the trainers are worn outside you can no longer return them. I have heard of shops that give you a month to try them and still allow you to return them if you are not happy. Surely they could claim I had already worn them outside after trying them out?
I was also disappointed by the low levels of stock in the shop. After choosing my trainers, I still had some money left over and I had in mind either a black short sleeve top for those runs that are not quite warm enough for just my running club vest or *shock horror* a pair of shorts. Yes ladies and gents I am almost feeling confident enough to blind the population of the South Wales valleys with my whiter than white legs!! Almost. But they had neither of those things. The ladies section consisted of pink or pink and long running leggings.
They did have a good selection of garmin watches and gels but neither of those are necessary for me at the moment at the distances I do.
I wore my new trainers to run club last Wednesday and had the best run ever. I’m not sure if it was psychological or if I’m actually getting better but we ran up a mountain (no I’m not exaggerating- it is actually a mountain) and not only was I not the last one home but I actually felt good while running!
Hurrah! To new running shoes 😀
