Red, White and Blue

We have our staff Christmas party in October! Why? Because we are actually banned from taking leave during December.  Work call it the “Staff Awards” party and those who have completed NVQ’s during the year are presented with their certificate. This year it was my turn to get my certificate (as I have been on maternity leave since I finished it) so hubby and I decided to make the trek up to head office which is 2 ½ hours away.

Work were lovely and put us up in a B&B. The Elephant and Castle is in the process of being renovated and the new rooms are fab. Check it out if you are ever in the area.

The theme for this year’s party was “Red, White and Blue” – obviously influenced by this year’s British Bonanza; the jubilee and the Olympics.

Out came the hats…

And balloons…

But I needed an outfit. Do I wear the dress I made to wear to the jubilee party we had at church?

Or do I make a new outfit?

I had heard on the grapevine that the North contingency were going all out having hired costumes based on the theme. A simple A-line dress was not going to cut it. I had to make something that would hold its own.

I tried to use what I already had (to save some pennies) so I made a plain white corset and skirt. To the corset I added crocheted flowers in red, white and blue and I also made a tutu-esque overskirt. Couple that with red tights and 2 white flowers selo-taped to red shoes I’ve had a while

and I have a complete outfit.

What do you think?

I even won a silver medal in the space hopper race wearing that!!
